The excuse there is that said PC is an evolution of the Gray Ooze - Gray Oozes can develop psychic powers if they live long enough. Now as to why this is the case, I don't know, but I do know I've been running a PC in one campaign that's had pretty much this same race for the last 2 years. Now this ooze race gets them and gets to switch between them (or even worse, have multiple at a time), breaking it wide open.

do get, you run into an even bigger problem - it is often the main 'schtick' those races have. If you let them switch out for various extra racial features that other races with extra arms/legs/etc. But I don't think the people that want it are going to be satisfied by that, do you? If adding yet more arms and legs and whatever is purely cosmetic, sure. I dunno, at the end of the day, if there's going to be a Player Race who's gimmick is the their flexible, changable body, it's just weird that their so locked into about 2 different shapes. I take it back, apparently you can only benefit from 1 shield at a time, regardless of limb count. But it wouldn't be impossible to put a limit on that. I guess I could see Shields being a slight issue with it, because being able to use 4 shields would be pretty silly. But why is it so restricting in how I can transform? Why can I only have upto 2 arms? Why can't I grow more legs too chase down foes? Why would I want to grow legs in the first place? Why can't I grow Flippers or Flagella for swim speed? The idea of a shapeshifting ooze is awesome, don't get me wrong. If you are not incapacitated, you can reshape your body to give yourself a head, one or two arms, one or two legs, and makeshift hands and feet, or you can revert to a limbless blob (no action required). However, in this post, I want to focus on a specific part of the plasmoid's stat block. New oozes are one size smaller than the original ooze.So, by now I'm certain we're all familiar with the races introduced in the new Unearthed Arcana, The Giff, Hadozee, Plasmoids, ect. Each new ooze has hit points equal to half the original ooze's, rounded down. When an ooze that is Medium or larger is subjected to lightning or slashing damage, it splits into two new oozes if it has at least 10 hit points. If the ooze ends its turn with its Reflective Wave charged, it takes 21 (6d6) radiant damage. Each creature in that area must make a DC 17 Constitution saving throw, taking 22 (4d10) radiant damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. The ooze emits stored light in a 30-foot cone. Reflective Wave (Recharges when the ooze takes radiant damage). When the ooze takes radiant damage, the first pseudopod attack it makes before the end of its next turn deals an additional 10 (3d6) radiant damage.

Hit: 8 (1d8 + 4) bludgeoning damage plus 3 (1d6) acid damage. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. It then makes one attack with its pseudopod. The ooze can use its Reflective Wave if it is available. The ooze can alter the radius as a bonus action. The ooze sheds bright light in a 5- to 20-foot radius and dim light for an additional number of feet equal to the chosen radius. The ooze can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check. This damage cannot be reduced or avoided by any means. At the start of its turn, the ooze can take 10 (3d6) radiant damage. The ooze can move through a space as narrow as 1 inch wide without squeezing.
